Step by step

    Find a certified examiner

    Use the National Registry to find one near you.

    Pass the DOT physical

    You'll get your ME Certificate (medical card).

  3. 3

    Self-certify with your state DMV

    Submit the new card so your CDL isn't downgraded.

Worth knowing

  • Renew on or before the date on the card (max 24 months, less if monitored).
  • Missing the DMV submission causes a CDL downgrade.
