What you'll need

  • A Login.gov account (identity-verified) — the old USDOT-PIN sign-in is retired
  • Your USDOT number
  • Total miles (VMT) driven in the last year
  • Number of power units and drivers
  • EIN, principal address, and company officials

Step by step

  1. 1

    Sign in through Login.gov

FMCSA retired its legacy portals (URS, the FMCSA Portal, and USDOT-PIN sign-in) on May 14, 2026. Registration now runs through the new Motus system, which signs in with Login.gov — create and identity-verify a Login.gov account first if you don't have one.

  2. 2

Link your carrier record in Motus

First time in Motus, claim your existing USDOT record so it's connected to your Login.gov identity. Follow the current instructions on FMCSA's registration page — the exact screens are still being refined during the transition.

  3. 3

    Open your biennial update (MCS-150)

Choose the update/biennial-update option for your USDOT number.

  4. 4

    Verify your details

Confirm legal name, DBA, address, EIN, and company officials are correct.

  5. 5

    Enter mileage and fleet

Report last year's total mileage and your current number of trucks and drivers.

  6. 6

    Certify and submit

Review, e-sign, submit, and save the confirmation.

Worth knowing

  • Letting the MCS-150 lapse can deactivate your USDOT and put you out of service. (During the mid-2026 Motus transition FMCSA has paused some automated deactivations — don't count on the pause; file on schedule.)
  • Also file within 30 days of any change to address, name, or fleet size.
  • If Motus errors out — a common complaint during the transition — document your attempt (screenshots + date) and retry; check FMCSA's registration page for current guidance.
